30 Mar Ambler’s 2017 Quiz Night champions enter the history books
The third annual Ambler Quiz saw teams of parents and carers from all year groups battling for the trophy and honour of being the 2017 champions.
The book-themed evening was held last Friday and saw a well-subscribed raffle, with a top prize of super cool Beats Pill+ portable Bluetooth speakers donated by our generous sponsors, Anthony Pepe Estate Agents.
The exciting quiz rounds were compéred by our maestro MC, Tom Price, and loosely based on Ambler’s Reading for Pleasure initiative.
The topics included including local knowledge (which saw some hot debate on the definition of a patisserie vs a cafe), a musical round of theme songs from films adapted from books, and questions on irreverent political trivia.
The cutest round comprised interviews with Reception and KS1 children describing characters from their favourite books without naming them. The grown-ups had to deduce who they were talking about, from Tin Tin to The Famous Five.
The hat-making challenge saw some brilliant millinery from only a copy of the Literary Review, tape and napkins. Each hat was paraded catwalk-style by a brave member of the team, and the face-off was won by the Token Effort team with their fantastical Maleficent-inspired horns.
Last year’s winners, The Teachers/Quizee Rascal, came a respectable 7th (with the Governors in 3rd place). The runners up were Token Effort, who were just pipped to the post by this year’s victors, The Hateful Eight.
The evening was a rip-roaring, smash-tastic, quizzical night of fun! And the icing on the cake was the homemade chocolate brownies for dessert!
Thanks to all who contributed to this fantastic team effort which raised £1,400 for Ambler Primary School and Children’s Centre!
