Ambler gets £12,000 Mayor of London grant for greener, healthier playground

07 Feb Ambler gets £12,000 Mayor of London grant for greener, healthier playground

Ambler Primary School and Children’s Centre has received a £12,000 grant from the Mayor of London’s Greener City Fund, which will transform the playground into a healthier and more attractive space.

Friends of Ambler and Grow Ambler successfully applied to the Fund, which aims to help local communities improve and create new accessible green spaces across the capital.

The project will see innovative live ivy-covered panels installed to ease pollution in the playground and make the space a lot greener.

The money donated will also enable pergolas to be erected, with climbers such as honeysuckle and jasmine planted beside them. Espaliered fruit trees including apple and cherry will cover bare brick walls, dramatically improving the current urban environment:

The screens, pergolas and plants will be installed during upcoming Gardening Days, where Ambler children and their families get stuck in to transforming and maintaining the school’s playground and forest area.

Grow Ambler are a friendly green-fingered bunch of parents, carers, pupils, siblings and family members. If you’d like to know how you can help, please contact them directly at
